Orca raps about Thelema

Heading

I'm presuming, in this, that you know what Thelema is. If you don't, there's a site you can visit, and more links below.

I'm not here to tell you what the One True Right And Only Thelemite Order is. All of them have their weaknesses and failings, and the biggest failing they all have is that they are Orders. That is to say, each of them is an organization, with all the baggage that accompanies being an organization: politics, committeeism, the tendancy for the guy who's been around longest to get [promoted | put in leadership positions] whether or not he [deserves promotion | would be a good leader], and most (and worst) of all, the seeming obligation to grow in numbers and power, not each on its own merits, but by vilifying "the competition".

Hey, guys, this is a religion, not a corporation (though there're doubtless some who say that the two really are synonymous, and others who'll insist that Thelema is "Not a Religion[tm]"). You over there, what do you win by spending all your time dissing The Other Guy? And you, down in the front row, what do you gain (other than money) by worrying about whom to sue next (and why should the money matter)? Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law, right? So if my Will is to belong to one Thelemic Order rather than another, or to none at all, you just flatly have nothing to say about it. "Excuse me very much," as my mom used to say.

This isn't to say that I don't myself belong to a Thelemite Order -- I do. But I remain an anarchist, doing my Will in my own way (or at least, trying to discover what that Will is and then doing it, and Loving in the meantime, but that's for further down the page), and, frankly, time spent dissing The Other Guy is time wasted not discovering and then doing my Will. I'm really only in an Order for the initiations -- and those not even for the positions they confer, but purely for the transformative experience. Hi, my name is Orca, and I'm a rituaholic. (Hi, Orca!)

Anyway, like I said, that's not what I came here to talk to you about. I came here to talk to you about the draft. It's very stuffy in Thelemic circles, for the most part, and we could use a few more drafts. Or draughts, as the case may be. Let's open some windows. (Or tap some kegs, as the case may be.)

Will. Love.
